Naomi Watts 'fears fame' The Courier-Mail: Naomi Watts 'fears fame' [27apr05]: "NAOMI Watts may fear becoming a big movie star, but she won't be able to avoid being anything but huge following the release of her latest Hollywood blockbuster King Kong. Playing Ann Darrow in the remake of the classic 1933 film, Watts has spent several months living in Wellington, New Zealand, where the film was directed by triple Academy Award winner Peter Jackson. 'I don't like to think of being a movie star,' Watts said in an interview with Australia's In Style magazine,. 'I do slightly fear it with King Kong. It's going to be such a large-scale picture in every way.' Watts has spoken many times about her hard slog in Hollywood." Monday, April 18, 2005
Nic tipped Watts for Interpreter The Daily Telegraph | Nic tipped Watts for Interpreter: "Nicole Kidman beat out good friend Naomi Watts and Oscar winner Charlize Theron for the starring role in The Interpreter. The thriller's director, Sydney Pollack, revealed he picked Kidman because she was the 'most believable' of the three actresses on his short-list to play United Nations interpreter Silvia Broome. 'The three people I thought about were Charlize, Nicole and Naomi Watts,' Pollack told AAP in an interview in Los Angeles. Many in Hollywood thought Theron, the South African beauty and Oscar winner last year for Monster, would have been Pollack's ideal choice to play Broome. The character has an African accent – a mixture of Swahili and Shona. 'I think Charlize Theron could have done it too, but I don't think anybody could have done it as well as Nicole,' Pollack said. Kidman and Pollack have been friends for more than 10 years and worked on numerous projects together, but The Interpreter was the first time Kidman has acted in a film directed by Pollack." Watts on high voltage icNewcastle - Watts on high voltage: "Life doesn't seem to run too smoothly for Naomi Watts - offscreen she struggled for years to make it in Hollywood and, now she has, she seems to spend most of her onscreen time attempting to survive a string of monsters or vengeful spirits. The British-born star, who grew up in Australia, was 33 when David Lynch's Mulholland Drive finally got her noticed, before The Ring a year later brought her wider commercial success. Now the 36-year-old is hugely in demand, and is becoming a fixture in cinemas. Last week she was reprising her role as journalist Rachel Keller in horror film The Ring Two, this week she's starring in the real-life inspired The Assassination of Richard Nixon - and soon she'll back on the silver screen trying to escape a giant gorilla, taking on Fay Wray's iconic role in Peter Jackson's special-effects-laden blockbuster remake of King Kong. To say she's on a roll is something of an understatement." Wednesday, April 06, 2005
Naomi Watts unlucky in love Digital Spy: Naomi Watts unlucky in love: "The Ring Two star Naomi Watts has complained that she only ever attracts 'jerks.' After splitting from A Knight's Tale star Heath Ledger last year she is reportedly worried that she will not find another serious partner. She explained to the Daily Mirror: 'I enjoyed my time with Heath and a lot of our problems stemmed from being far apart because of shooting schedules as much as anything else. 'If it had meant to be, we probably would have found a way to work things out. I've never had much luck with romance. I seem to attract jerks.'" Friday, April 01, 2005
Naomi Watts: 'Mulholland Drive Saved Me from Suicide' Naomi Watts: 'Mulholland Drive Saved Me from Suicide': "Hollywood beauty Naomi Watts credits movie Mulholland Drive with saving her life--because she regularly contemplated suicide until she got her big break in the film. The 36-year-old beauty considered ending her own life while driving through Los Angeles' real Mulholland Drive, because her dreams of a movie career had been shattered, she was suffering extreme poverty and was about to be evicted from her apartment. But when director David Lynch offered her the lead part in the thriller, she accepted the role and vowed to leave her depression behind her. She says, 'I still have a hard time believing that it's all come together for me. I remember spending a lot of time in my car weeping. 'I actually remember driving along Mulholland Drive thinking, 'I'll just take a right turn here. Maybe I'll just go over the cliff, because I can't take it any more.' 'But I never had the guts to actually quit. My friend Nicole (Kidman) would tell me, 'All it takes is one film.' And that film turned out to be Mulholland Drive It was a life saver because I was about to be evicted from my L.A. apartment.' " Wednesday, March 30, 2005
Watts chooses 'King Kong' for Jackson Digital Spy: Watts chooses 'King Kong' for Jackson: "Australian actress Naomi Watts has revealed that she decided to accept a role in King Kong after hearing that Peter Jackson would be the director. The Mulholland Drive star is a huge fan of Jackson, who also directed the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and admits that she probably wouldn't be starring in the movie if anybody else was directing. Watts told Hotdog magazine, 'The director plays a big part in my choices. I don't know if I'd do King Kong if Peter Jackson wasn't attached.'" Monday, March 21, 2005
'The Ring Two', starring Naomi Watts, tops box office CBS 47 JACKSONVILLE//ENTERTAINMENT: "Despite a glut of family films, audiences flocked to see creepy little girl Samara in her theatrical return in 'The Ring Two.' The sequel to 2002's horror hit - which revolves around a mysterious videotape that causes its viewer's death within a week - raked in approximately $36 million at the box office, according to estimates by Exhibitor Relations. The Naomi Watts film averaged $10,804 for each of its 3,332 screens in its first weekend in release. If estimates hold, 'The Ring Two's' strong opening makes it the third-best March opening after last week's debut of 'Robots,' which earned slightly more and still brought in $21.8 million in its sophomore week out." |
